Arabians are our YourDressage Breed of the Month for July!  One of the oldest horse breeds on earth, and the influence for many other breeds, these elegant horses are easily recognizable with their delicate faces and high tail carriage.  They excel in many sports, particularly endurance riding.

Dressage enthusiasts who ride Arabians have the opportunity to earn special awards through the Adequan®/USDF All-Breeds Awards as Arabian Horse Association, North American Shagya-Arabian Society, and Performance Shagya-Arabian Registry are all Participating Organizations.

We recently asked our social media followers to share photos of their Arabians, and let us know what makes these horses so special. Below, you can see their photos and stories.  Keep an eye out for the second part of this gallery  next week, and the third part at the end of July 2021!

Do you want to share a photo of your Arabian? E-mail us at yourdressage@gmail.com for your chance to be featured!

Stay tuned to YourDressage all month long as we celebrate this breed, with photo galleries and exclusive stories from Arabian enthusiasts across the country!

He completed every ride entered, including two three day 100 mile rides and was champion of several 50 and 60 mile rides. While we were always doing some dressage training and showing, last year we switched to it full time. We’re now two thirds of our way to my bronze medal and moving up to third level. Love the versatility and athleticism of this breed!

USDF region 2 2019, 6th place third level amateur and 5th place third level freestyle. USDF region 4 2016 training level 4th place amateur. Has qualified and shown at USDF finals 3 times. National dressage pony cup small horse year end champion in third and fourth level amateur and reserve in amateur freestyle in 2019. Has won numerous high score awards at open dressage shows. I’m an amateur owner who has trained him myself (with the help of my coach but I’m the only one that has ridden him since he was 4 years old) from training level to psg working towards the i1 and Grand Prix
Submitted by Caroline V. – Half Arabian Sport Horse gelding, R Kansas Cowboy. 4 year old just started under saddle and head to 2021 Sport Horse Nationals. I find Arabians and Half Arabians to be quick learners who are very eager to please and try very hard.

Submitted by Charma F. – This is my stallion Allemar by Allience. I bred, raised and trained him myself with help. He is my first dressage horse and I didn’t start riding until I was 40 years old. I got my bronze, silver and one score towards my gold until he had a tendon tear and I had breast cancer and we had to stop. I still have him and he is 27yo. He has been a fabulous horse to learn from and help me through some tough times. Love Arabians!! *Note: USDF strongly recommends all riders wear protective headgear when mounted.
Submitted by Chelsea L. – my half Arabian Magicaul Seekret GOA+ we are really good partners together and he’s more than happy to learn anything I teach him. He’s so smart!

He gives his all to me every ride. I love him, quirks and all!
Submitted by Cindy G. – This is my my boy JP Moonlight Mirage. I love the challenge of Dressage and am fortunate enough to have a great trainer and coach. Submitted by Dawn L. – FCF Oberons Vanity, my homebred Arabian stallion who was the 2020 USDF All-Breeds Champion at Intermediare I (Open) with his trainer/rider. He competed in DSHB classes at Dressage at Devon when he was just started under saddle as a young horse, in 2015 he earned the highest scores and placings of any Arabian-bred stallion to ever participate in the 70 day Stallion Performance Test in North America, and now he is being systematically developed towards a goal of competing at Grand Prix. Because of his exceptional temperament and rideability, he competed one season with a young rider and has served as a schoolmaster for a few riders to give them a feel for upper level movements. While many people cite the aesthetic qualities of Arabians, it was their people pleasing temperaments combined with their handy athleticism that drew me to them and inspired me to start a small breeding program for sport. Submitted by Elizabeth B. – To all those women who are discouraged to keep riding/showing while raising children and managing a demanding career, this mare is a testament that it can be done. She had many years of stops and starts while my children were young. Lots of pasture time but she patiently put up with me with an occasional ride. She only had 90 days of training when I bought her. So you understand where we started from. It has been the last three years that I have ridden her consistently to get her back to a show ring with a well preserved 24 year body and the energy and spirit of a 8 year old. I love the resilience of the Arabian breed and the fire of a mare. Never give up
Submitted by Emily G. – Here is my new dressage pony! Diamondz R Divine DA (aka Jewel). We plan to start showing this Fall.

Submitted by Jennifer B. – I fell in love with Arabians and with dressage both on accident… but now I can’t imagine things any other way. Am so blessed with my beautiful “Bob” … from a western pleasure horse to showing up to Fourth Level, a 4x Sport Horse National Top Ten, and earning me every single score for my Bronze Medal. He has done everything for me, my heart horse. OFW Ambush+/, 2000 Gelding, Magnum Psyche x Salona Rose.  Photo by Terry Maupin aka Mom. Submitted by Jennifer S. –  Vincent AF purebred Arabian. I would of never gone out of my way to choose this breed. I am so lucky that he kept coming back in my life.
Submitted by Jessica A. 1 – One of my favorite pictures of my now 22 year old purebred mare. It doesn’t matter where we’re at or even what we’re both wearing, she gives me her all, every day. Still going strong in a regular training schedule with zero maintenance, plus many trail miles. They’re a phenomenal, capable breed, and I’m so glad to see USDF appreciation.
Submitted by Jessica A. 2 – Photos are 10 years apart – she barely ages!
Submitted by Jessica N. – Cashs Sunset Bey is a half Arabian, he is a phenomenal horse who always gives it his all! He is truly the ultimate representative of the versatility of the Arabian horse, he does 1st level dressage, hunter jumpers, carriage pleasure driving, In-hand, trail riding, and is more than happy to chase a cow or do anything else that is thrown his way!

Submitted by Jessy O. – I ride an Anglo Arabian who is 14 years old. She is incredibly sensitive and talented. She was unfortunately trained by someone who did not know how to work with a horse like her and I’ve spent the last 3 years really getting her to trust and blossom. We debuted 3rd level this year and I’m really excited for her future!

Submitted by Karen S. – Photo by AJSK Photograph: G Ima Starr FA, my 17 year old Arabian. Together we earned our bronze medal last summer. He is now semi-retired being ridden at intro and training level by several ladies who want to lean more about dressage. “Speedy,” as he’s known around the barn, was my last endurance horse before I left that discipline in 2010. He has been a credit to his breed.
Submitted by Kari L. – Zulu LOA+// 15x National Champion Dressage & Dressage Seat Equitation. 2x Canadian National Champion Dressage. Still showing at 21!

We’ve earned our bronze and silver together and 2 scores towards our gold. He was regional champion in 4th level and reserve champion in Intermediate 1. He’s truly my heart horse
Submitted by Katherine R. – BL Wilde Gambit my heart
Submitted by Katie A. – My purebred Arabian mare, Astara Afire, from a lesson this June. We are working on Second and Third Level movements. The thing about Arabians is that they have longevity, smarts, movement, and great personalities. An Arabian will always try to please and they truly do have a people pleasing personality. Although showing is something I do sporadically, my mare has taught me to be a sensitive, quiet, and to think outside the box rider, as we continue to move up the levels.
Submitted by Katie L. – Written In The Stars++ 11 year old half Arabian. Regional champion in hand, under saddle, and trail in hand. Dressage partner, trail partner (real trails, not trail classes), and kids horse
Submitted by Katie M. – My PB gelding, heart horse and dance partner of 16 years. He has a fantastic work ethic and an even bigger heart. We’ve done a little bit of everything together and I trust him so much that we just went for our First Level scores toward my bronze medal at 6 mos pregnant and we got some of our highest scores ever and took home the First Level High Score and Adult Amateur High Score for the weekend. He is hands down one of the best things that ever happened to me and I can’t wait to watch my daughters grow up enjoying him! *Note: USDF strongly recommends all riders wear protective headgear when mounted.
Submitted by Kayla S. – My 15 yr old home bred Half-Arabian/Shagya gelding, CS Ostentatious+. After a 5 year hiatus sitting out in pasture, last year he earned scores for USDF All-Breeds in both Training and First, many high point awards in clubs/organization, even received Ambassador Award through the Performance Shagya Registry.

Submitted by Mary K. – My 19 year old gelding Royal Pain. We have enjoyed competing in All breeds!!
Submitted by Megan F. – Rekholection++++// is my homebred and shown Half Arabian dream horse! She’s got quite the story as a successful show horse, and now as a medical anomaly this year. She’s won a National Championship in hand and Reserve National Championship in dressage, but this year as a 6 year old she was New Bolton Equine Hospital’s first ever horse with a 15 lb leiomyoma. She’s always been an overachiever! After surgery, she’s now back to riding and, God willing, will be showing at East Coast Championships and Sport Horse Nationals in SHIH, dressage, and SHUS!
