December is Splash of Color month on YourDressage!  Whether your horse is a registered Paint, Appaloosa, Knabstrupper, or Gypsy Horse, sports a patched or spotted coat, or wears lots of chrome, this month is for you!

Dressage enthusiasts who ride colorful horses have the opportunity to earn special awards through the Adequan®/USDF All-Breeds Awards as the American Paint Horse Association,  Appaloosa Horse Club, Knabstrupperforeningen for Danmark (KNN), Gypsy Horse Registry Of America, and Gypsy Vanner Horse Society are all Participating Organizations.

We recently asked our social media followers to share photos of their loudly colored horses, and let us know what makes these horses so special. Below, you can see some of their photos and stories.  Keep an eye out for more galleries and exclusive stories featuring these incredibly special horses through the end of December 2021!

Submitted by Jess I. – In 2020 we lost the owner to health complications, only to find out she left him to me in her will. Now we’re prepping for a wonderful debut at Grand Prix… when only 3 short years ago we could barely get around 3rd level and stay in the ring. Never give up on something you believe in!

Submitted by Haley D. – This is my mare, Radiance. She’s an 8 year old American Warmblood (Hanoverian x Paint/Saddlebred). This mare is one of the sweetest beings I’ve ever met. She may be little, but my gosh is she talented. It’s true what they say, a mare will give you their whole heart and more. She does this for me daily.

Submitted by Serah R. – I was not looking for a pinto when I decided it was time to look for a younger horse. I wanted an Arab or arab warmblood x. But, when a trusted horsewoman told me I needed to come check out this pinto she had, I listened. As I watched her at liberty in the arena I was thinking very much no.
Submitted by Serah R. – Then, I saw her go under saddle – she had about 20ish rides under her belt – and I saw why her seller thought I needed to see her. A few days later, the mare I now (very affectionately) call PintoThing (¾paint, ¼ arab) was in my pasture, and it’s been a fun and challenging partnership ever since.

And his markings have made him famous 🙈 he is known as “the ditch horse” for his now infamous video of jumping a ditch like a cricket (check out his video below!). He is a registered Holsteiner (no paint in this boy and come from two plain brown horses!) and is by Concerto Grosso Holsteiner Stallion x Voltaire mare

Submitted by Jennifer T. – My Georgian Grande, Pre. I started leasing Pre from a good friend of mine just a few days before my oldest son died. This horse took such good care of me while I was drowning in grief. He always knew exactly what I needed. I cannot even describe the bond we share now. I love this horse with my entire being. I was fortunate enough to be able to purchase him later on. I’m so grateful to my husband and my friend for making this happen for me.
Submitted by Kat S. – You Salty Dog “Hendricks” is my Western Dressage mount. He is a Killpen rescue with lovely movement and we’re competing in Basic Level, schooling 1st. This is us practicing our extensions. He is active in my lesson program and has an in-your-pocket, puppy dog personality.

Submitted by Danielle L. – My grade pony Bandito ❤️ We started off as a green pair three years ago, but through hard work and dedication we’ve successfully shown Training and First Level. My favorite thing about Bandit is his big ears. When he’s really relaxed (which is often, he’s very happy as a dressage horse) his ears will flop to the beat of his canter.

He’s a medicine hat paint which in Indian lore makes him special but he’s more than special in my heart. Oh and he loves my grandaughter.
