We recently asked our social media followers to share a photo of their favorite Friesian or Friesian cross, and tell us a little about them, for a chance to be featured on YourDressage, and we are so excited to share all the beautiful photos we received! Throughtout the month we will also be looking for stories from folks who love this breed. If you have a fairytalesque Friesian you’d like to share, send us an email at yourdressage@usdf.org.
Fauston NAF. Bred here in Oklahoma by Linda Clair. He has been a family affair. My oldest daughter was his original trainer when she worked for Linda. Then my youngest took over and we ended up buying him. That is my youngest on him back in 2018 at Region 9 Regionals. Since then I have taken over the ride and last year got my silver on him even with flying lead change issues. But he can get 8s on his pirouettes and many of the other double coefficients. As Dolly Hannon said at a clinic last year, so you have a horse that can do all hard stuff really well. Changes are getting better and the I1 movements set him up for better changes. So who knows….He is 17. – Pamela D.My mother and grandmother own a Friesian Andalusian cross. His name is Shivago, and some of us call him Zeus because of his very dramatic thundering canter! He will be eight here soon. He’s had a rough bringing up due to being kicked in his mouth when he was young. He had a whole mouth brace and all. Though now he’s flourishing and breaching second level! – Peyton B.My super fun Friesian/morgan Amish pony!! – Sierra C.This is Tango he is a 8yr old gelding Friesian Sport horse. He competes in region 2 and has been grand champion for training level. Scoring just over 75%. Now competes 1st level. Currently working towards second level. He also has been seen in Midwest Horse Fair a part of the Grand March representing the Friesian Sport Horse breed. He is one of the best temperate horses I’ve ever ridden. He has some incredible movements and one of the largest canters. He also has a natural passage movement. My name is Eva and I’m 18 he has become my heart horse forever and had given me hope when I had none. I’ve had him for a year and a half. He truly is a lifetime horse for me. – tango_mango_dressageLuigi aka Louie – a friesian/morgan cross. I’ve had him for just under a year and he has proved his athleticism and willingness to learn! Can’t wait to see what our 2026 show season brings! – Abby G.This is my 8yo 3/4 Friesian 1/4 Standardbred Friesian Cross mare, Freya. I’ve had her for 5 years and am currently schooling 2nd with her. The word for her is FUN! I keep my two mares at home so one of the most important things to me is personality and she’s just a delight. She has so much try in her, I feel she really does “go forward with joy”. I have had so much fun learning with her, I recommend Friesian crosses to all the AA friends that I have! Her origin story at my farm is really that it was meant to be. She originally came from Amish country in Ohio as a 3yo and was sold at the Great American Ranch and Trail Horse sale in VA – I met her and fell head over heels for her: I watched several people ride her of all levels and she just was so kind and forgiving to all of them, even in a highly stressful environment. I didn’t win the bid, but two months later I saw an ad on FB for her in a random group; the new owner wasn’t a fit for her. I talked to my husband (who was tired of the lingering sadness I had over not getting her) and called the lady immediately. The next month I drove 6.5 hrs to bring her BACK to Virginia and the rest is history! She’s here for life 🩷 – Kate S.I would like to introduce Djurre út ‘t Westen – Sport Elite AAA!
