The rain was still coming down hard during our warmup and what we could do in the footing was limited. So, when they called for the tests to restart, I had no expectations of riding a good test. Unbeknownst to me when we arrived, I was met with our new “broodmare” who turned out instead to be a one-and-a-half-year-old stud colt, who would one day be lovingly known to me as MonarcH.
