Emma Smith a USDF Certified Instructor at Training – First Level.

Meet Emma Smith! She is a student at Penn State University World Campus and a USDF Certified Instructor at Training – First Level.

How I got started in dressage: I started riding dressage when I was 5 and never looked back. After spending time leasing horses at different barns, I became a working student and then assistant trainer for Sarah Travis.

I wanted to become certified because: I needed to develop my skills to become the best trainer and rider I could be to help my horses and students.

What surprised me the most about the process: I was surprised by the emphasis on all aspects of horse care and riding that were required.

My horses: I have two horses: Stedemann, a 14 year old Oldenburg gelding owned by Dressage4Kids, and Rhoyal Encour, a 8 year old Oldenburg gelding.

Training tip: Take advantage of all the USDF educational opportunities such as the reading lists, eTrak videos, and discounts on educational events to expand your knowledge base.
