Bodo Hangen

I was a boarder – student at Lamplight Stables in Wayne Illinois in the 1970s. Bodo Hangen came to teach shortly after. I have some programs and other things concerning Bodo and dressage shows at that time. I also have a news article from, I believe, 1973 about Willi Schultheis riding a Lipizzan stallion in Chicago.

I’m sharing an article from 1975 and a dedication from 1977 for two horses that passed away.

After watching Bodo practicing one day I wrote a poem about his ride.  It was published in the 1975 American Horse Shows Association (what would become the US Equestrian Federation) newsletter.

Please note: These photos are from the 1970s and are presented in an historical context. USDF strongly recommends all riders wear protective headgear when mounted.

USDF is always looking for vintage dressage photos. You can submit yours to yourdressage@usdf.org for your chance to have your photos featured in one of our throwbacks!
