The captivating Connemara! We are celebrating these horses as our May Breed of the Month on #YourDressage!
We recently asked our social media followers to share a photo of their favorite Connemara or Connemara cross, and tell us a little about them, for a chance to be featured in an upcoming gallery right here! We will be sharing stories from folks who love this breed all month long.
Did you know that dressage riders who choose a Connemara as their dressage mount are eligible for special awards through the Adequan®/USDF All-Breeds Awards program, as the American Connemara Pony Society (https://www.acps.org ) is a participating organization?
My ride for the last 12 years has been a very fun Connemara cross! We started at training level together and last year earned our silver medal together! – Becki R.HSH Gunpowder and Lead, 2020 mare owned by Heather Wu , by WH Topgun o/o a Riverman x OTTB mare. – April H.HSH Elle Yeah 2022 filly, by Foothills Field Marshall and o/o same Riverman xTB mare, registered Halfbred. – April H.Wildwych Belladonna (*Glenormiston Flurry Knox x *Rudgeway Silver Filigree). Purebred Connemara mare pictured at GMHA. – Heather M.KF Mulligan. It took us 10 years to get here so why not share the fruits of our labor. Bred by Chris Knox, Mulligan was meant to be on a driving team of ponies, but alas, he was kicked off the team when he went over size. Cheeky and opionated, Mulligan told me jumping was not his jam,(I know, crazy for a Connemara), but he loves pointing his toes! So, we are getting ready for PSG/I-1 this year. – Sondra M.Talamah Bound and Anna Dykstra – Tammy L.Sonny, the best pony!! – Teace M.Patty’s Etoile de Paris. 19 year old stallion, imported from Germany. A good easy pony. Quiet temperment. Excellent mover. Trail rides. Jumps. Does whatever you ask of him. We love him. – Lisa E.Stoney Creek Moonshine (R Blue Moon x Arbor Lane’s Bailey) as a 4 year old at his first dressage show. He is 6 this year and will show First Level. – Lindsey J.This is my purebred Connemara stallion *Swansview Mirahs Shadow as a 3 year old at his first show. Although I make him do everything, even cow sorting, to show him as a well rounded stallion, I plan to go pure dressage with him 💙 – Megan G.The world’s ✨best boy✨ My Connemara cross, Bardondales Ultrasuede has been my para horse, and essentially my emotional support animal since 2018. He’s given me life, and given me the world when it comes to my journey as an athlete. I wouldn’t be here, and I wouldn’t be who I am today without him – Holly L.Tucker is my 7 year old Connemara/TB. I just got him this October but he is surprising me every day with how athletic and willing he is! We plan to do dressage, eventing and jumping. His show debut this spring! – Katie H.My homebred R Cracker Jack (now 19yo Purebred Gelding). Competed through 2-3 including the all breeds program. – Lisa M.Durango’s Irish Rose, registered Connemara x TB by Aluinn Durango bred by Jordan LaPlaca – Nora G.W.H. Topgun- Connemara Stallion and offspring has competed to 3rd level dressage, and preliminary level eventing, he also has many offspring that have gone to regionals and nationals in both eventing and dressage! – Elliott T.Shadey Hills Golden Dream half Bred connemara x GRP (Milky Way) mare competing at region 8 championships. She is a hard working fun loving pony. A fabulous representation of the breeding on both sides. – Heather D.Say hello to Rosewood Whisper (Tre Awain Cavan O’Conor x Rosewood Twilight) bred by Darian Hall. She’s rising 6 and will be showing at First Level this year. Whisper was gifted to me and I absolutely treasure her. She rises to every challenge with a “can-do” attitude mixed with some sass. Whisper came to me as a two-year old in 2020, the same month we graduated our last (of three) child from our homeschool. Little did I know how much I needed a pony in my life. She’s just the cutest and best pony girl. – Sharon J.Braemar Peace (Gentle Cascade x Atlantic Promise) Peace won her lifetime achievement in dressage with ACPS last year! – Nicola O.1/2 breed registered Connemara, Elsbeth’s Shiloh. Now 17 yo gelding. Bred and broke by me. I meant for him to be an event horse, which he was as a 4 yo. Then, I thought we’d change to straight dressage. We’ve been learning together. We have achieved our silver medal. Working on gold. Only need our GP scores. This was 2 weeks ago showing I-1 at KDA early spring show. Photo by Lisa Dean Photography – Kristen Y.
