Pony power!! We will be celebrating ponies of all breeds on YourDressage through the month of June!
We recently asked our social media followers to share a photo of their favorite pony and let us know what makes these compact mounts special to them for a chance to be featured on YourDressage! We will also be sharing stories from folks who love these pint-sixed equids all month long.
Dressage riders who choose ponies as their mounts are eligible for many Adequan®/USDF All-Breeds Awards as there are several pony organizations on our Participating Organization list!
Here is my 2nd Pony Partner – Red Zone -he’s a GRADE pony – probably over 20 yrs old and is all heart – ponies ROCK !! National Dressage Pony Cup rocks too!! – Ginger G.My 3rd Level QH pony mare, Choc in Tinseltown – Kimberly D.Ketadog Admiral (Rally), 14.2-hand WPCSA Half Welsh (by Rosmel’s Notorious, Sec B, out of JC thoroughbred Bluezar). My 🩷 pony who competed through Second Level before retiring due to laminitis. I adore riding ponies because of their big personalities and sports car size. 🤗 I’m now introducing Rally’s younger brother Nautilus to dressage shows. – Kelly Ann S.Devon Ridge Indira (Indy) is a 14.2 Connemara/Lippizaner mare. Sweet and a little spicy- is trying out all the rings. Dressage at first level, Eventing at Beginner Novice and some 2’6 jumpers💗💗💗 – Denise J.Tackmann’s Delicious, 2018 grulla GRP stallion owned by Sport Pony Imports 🥰 – Kaitlin B.Now Playing HU “Player” is a 14.3 Hanoverian with USDF Pony Card. Horse movement in a small body, and a kind soul. He gives me confidence! – Aleigh H.Le Dame Blanche aka Lena, 20ish year old large pony mare. (I like to imagine her as a Welsh X Connemara) her show name references Outlander, though it’s also a historic reference to a group of aristocratic French women who would help heal the sickly poor, and were often hung as witches. This pony healed my confidence, and gave me the ability to have fun in any show ring, starting in the Jumpers and taking back to the dressage arena. She has a history of getting self inflicted injuries just in time to take the winter off, the winter prior to this specific show, she waited until one week after I was officially too pregnant to ride (showed with me through 7 months pregnant, earning my highest score to date of 76%) then she procured the winter off with damage to her collateral ligament until I came back from maternity leave, then she was back in the show ring just two months out of her “retirement” for one more season. I routinely walk this pony bareback to the field for her turnout and take the halter off while still mounted and just hug her. She is so special and has given me the will to compete seriously, helped me through grief, stress, being overworked, and has always reminded me to take a deep breath. – Emily C.My small but mighty “Black Swan Syr Dewi”. I’m an open Dressage rider that owns my own facility. D as I call my man is a section D Welsh Cob that has a pony card. Once you go small you will never go back!💙 – KH Dragon Heart’s Lair, Inc.My sweet Wilbur is a pony height Haflinger. He has helped his para dressage amateur owner dip into rated dressage. – Jessica MaeSo proud of Michelle Eidson Morehead and Pete! Shown here with their winnings from the 2023 National Dressage Pony Cup Jennifer S.Meet Stellar TVR (Straden x Chione/Altess), a 2008 Purebred Haflinger stallion. I wanted Stellar from the time I saw him as a weanling, and was blessed to be able to purchase him at age two. He is as kind and sweet as he is athletic, and he has been an incredible ambassador for his breed. Stellar was Reserve Champion of the 2013 North American 30 Day Pony Stallion Testing, was Champion stallion and overall Reserve Grand Champion and Reserve Champion Mature Horse at the 2017 National Dressage Pony Cup USDF DSHB Championships, has won numerous first place through first level in Pony and Open classes at USDF recognized dressage shows, and is a USDF DSHB All-Breeds National Champion Haflinger. I mean he is absolutely perfect…..even the sassy attitude, he is just perfect! ❤️ – Jenesena U.Cremello Section B Welsh mare Vanity Whisper of Gold (Smoke Tree Gold Fever/Cottrell Sandalwood/Rotherwood State Occasion). Formerly owned by my trainer Kari McClain, and shown by me. She was a blast – forward thinking and super smart, and very serious about her dressage work! – Kenzie L.My dear friend Polly Pony! 17 years old, grade welsh cross, who has spent the majority of her life fox hunting. Here she is after a bareback hack giving me a few half steps. ❤️ – Amber G.When they just can’t help smile over a job well done! Rider: Poppy Black Horse: Oreo – Rebecca B.Legacy’s Island Renegade, 5 year old Chincoteague Pony. Owned and trained exclusively by me and my daughter since he was 4 months old, fresh off the island. He is silly, goofy, incredibly smart, a brilliant jumper, athletic and pretty much indestructible. – Sarina B.Here is this pair at the KDA Spring Warm-Up and Spring Show last weekend at the KHP. Kit Kat is 13.1 hands of grade pony power for Lillian Smith. For a petite, 11 year old rider it is wonderful to have a pint sized partner to share the joy of dressage with! They were also High Point ride at Training Level on Sunday. – Amanda S.My 2009 German Riding Pony, Doubt Me Not DSF came into my life needing my help. I was looking for a dressage horse, but when I saw him I knew that we were meant to be together. So I came home with an X-large pony. Our journey has been a long and difficult one. It took a team of people to help get him to a happy and healthy place. Just love him to pieces. I have his back and he has mine🐴❤️❤️❤️👍😁. Ponies are just the BEST in every way. I’m a small adult and ponies are the perfect size for us wee people😍 – Linda W.Addison Wright and SAR Jasmine. 2007 Arabian X Welsh. This was their first Region XII Championships together as a team.
