Submitted by Kara Corpman: Cash was rescued by Last Chance Corral as a nurse mare foal, I adopted him at two weeks old. We’re dipping our toe in the dressage ring with great comments from judges!
Did you know that dressage riders who partner a rescue horse as their dressage mount are eligible for special awards through the Adequan®/USDF All-Breeds Awards program, as the International Rescue Horse Registry is a participating organization?
We recently asked our social media followers to share a photo of their favorite rescue horse, and a little about them, for a chance to be featured in a gallery shining a spotlight on the rescue horses whose life path has been altered, and who are now thriving, and we received some amazing stories of resilience and love!
Phoenix Rising — rescued from a feedlot in Zillah, Washington as an unbroke 6 year old in 2015. I picked her up less than 24 hours before shipping to Canada for slaughter. After a challenging start, she became the love of my life! We competed in dressage and jumpers until she sustained a nearly life ending injury. Now she lives her best life teaching my 5 year old son how to ride.
– Michaela L.Minnie my 2013 Morgan mare. We are looking to show the 1st level this year. My dream goal would be to get our bronze together.
– Kylie H.As a four year old, Minnie (shown at left recently!) found her way into a rescue as a skeleton with a foal at her side.
– Kylie H.my boy is a PMU foal – mom was sent to auction in the states, she already had a foal at her side and had been bred back – thankfully producing my FEI horse. i bought him as a weanling with no great intentions. we have climbed the dressage levels together. he is beyond my heart horse.

Franke Photo Design photoSkeeter, my love. Rescued from the kill pen and fell in love. Both in training and he has a huuuuge personality now but is the best♥️
– Sissi B.Shiloh is a Haflinger/Paint cross and was found free on Craigslist as a 3 year old. He has since competed training level through 2nd level at rated shows. We are working on 3rd level and plan to complete our bronze medal this year. He has the best work ethic and the friendliness demeanor
– Annalea R.Walking In Memphis (Joey) a 10yr American Warmblood gelding rescued at age 3 and was Reserve Champion at the 2024 Region 4 Championships and 15th at his first USDF Finals in his first year as a dressage horse. – Stina T. Hanna Draughan Photography photoMcDreamy – my rescue pony!

Winslow Photography imageThis is Kia from Horses Haven in Michigan! She is a 17.1 hand warmblood (if you squint) that has taken me all the way to Grand Prix (in my dreams). She has the body of an athlete, conformation to match and trains like a true champion. Aka spends all day at her haynet. 🤭 But in all seriousness, thank you for showcasing amazing rescue horses! – Alexandra P.This is Legacy, my 9 year old Appaloosa x Arabian that I adopted from Horses Haven in January of 2023 🥰 He is the absolute sweetest little man! Legacy is so willing to do anything and everything, in your pocket personality (literally, if he could fit on my pocket, he would), and he is just so much fun to spend time with ❤️
– Shana C.El Capitan is our rescue rockstar! He’s a 17 year old Saddlebred/Arab/Warmblood cross who was started at 10 years old! He’s now competed through Second Level and spends his days teaching the future of dressage!
