The feisty Norwegian Fjord is our September Breed of the Month on YourDressage! We recently asked our social media followers to share a photo of their favorite Fjord and received an amazing response from Fjord fans around the world. We will be sharing stories and galleries all month long about this wonderfully versatile breed!

If she had a choice, we would run down the trails and not practice any arena work, so we compromise: dressage on the trails. This picture is from a local open hunter show, but I’m not a hunter rider, so we dressed out in our dressage gear. Paska is wonderful, funny, loving, and (I firmly believe) has three PhDs in mischief making, stand up comedy, and psychology. My mom has cancer and is in a wheelchair, and Paska brings so much life to my mom. I also have epilepsy and two rheumatological diseases that affect my joints, and Paska knows how to take good care of me. Some of Paska’s favorite activities include hide and go seek, ear scratches, and taking gates off her barn. She’s definitely a funny kid!
If you’ve ever wanted to have a full conversation with a horse with opinions, then a Fjord is for you!

It’s pretty crazy to think back almost two years ago, when a little kismet situation brought Lars home to me.
Lars and I feel incredibly lucky to have the support and guidance of Kim Omans on a weekly basis, and to have had the opportunity to learn from Felicitas von Neumann-Cosel and JJ Tate along the way. Having these people in our corner has made such a difference as we’ve figured things out together.
Lars made his Training Level and First Level debuts this season, and more than anything, I’m just grateful for how much this little horse continues to teach me and for the fun we’re having along the way. It’s so exciting to look back at where we started and see how far we’ve come. ❤️🦄

In his world the direct rein is marathon day and he only goes along with dressage in a snaffle until he decides to create his own fun. I’ve warned the ring crew there might be a ring rebuild after a medium canter down the long side (it was a show about 3 weeks after our last CDE of the winter season) and one Sunday (after winning the high score 2nd level award on Saturday), I had to resort to a one handed stop after the 1st medium canter. I opted to not leave the collected center on the second tour. Although collection is generous. Fire breathing dragon snort pogo canter would have been a solid 9 if it was in the standard.
But he is awesome at dressage, he got my bronze medal and at our last FEI 3* he was 1-2-2-3-3 under the ground jury. The exact same panel that was sitting at the world ch this last weekend. That’s a thrill I will always remember!
