Submitted by Veronica Miluk: Midnight Mischief Maker is a 22 year old QH from Wyoming and we've been together since he was a yearling. While he's not technically best suited for dressage, he's as honest as they come and has always given me his all. He has also taught me more about riding correctly than any of my other horses. He has helped me achieve many of my goals, including (at 22) a decades long dream of riding freestyles. Now we are embarking down the path of dressage seat equitation as he goes into semi-retirement.
The quintessential Quarter Horses! We are celebrating these horses as our October 2024 Breed of the Month on #YourDressage! We recently asked our social media followers to share a photo of their favorite Quarter Horse or Quarter Horse cross to be featured in one of the Quintessential Quarter Horse galleries this month, and they sure delivered! Stay tuned all through the month of October as we will also be sharing stories from folks who love this breed.
Did you know that dressage riders who choose a Quarter Horse as their dressage mount are eligible for special awards through the Adequan®/USDF All-Breeds Awards program, as the American Quarter Horse Association is a participating organization?
Mister Maximus; currently 2nd in the nation for Training level AQHA awards, 52nd overall for HOTY training level Open
– Maddie K.French Vanilla, my first horse who taught me SO much and took the best care of me. He’s been up in horsey heaven for over 6 years now. I miss him deeply. He was the goofiest, sweetest, best boy ❤️
– Alissa C.My sweet mare Cleo and I 💕 we are working on second level dressage. – Megan R.Who Whiz Chico, reining bred AQHA palomino gelding won the 2019 Youth AQHA Training Level High Point Award.
– Kristin P.Our daughter, Natalie Perry, on her AQHA gelding, More Whiskey. This photo was taken 24 years ago! Natalie and Whiskey competed successfully through 2nd level learning the basics of dressage with the help of their wonderful trainers, Jill Seely and Kari McClain. This great guy fueled a love of horses and the sport of dressage that is still with Natalie. She went on to earn her USDF bronze, silver and gold medals and is a professional dressage trainer in Bend, Oregon with numerous students riding at the FEI levels.
– Carolyn H.The Jersey Boy, by Kissin the Girls. 5 year old. Just started Western Dressage this year and is loving it, as am I! – Jennifer L.Docs Got A Rueger, 14.0h AQHA gelding – I purchased him as a barrel prospect in 2015 and turned him into a dressage pony currently schooling PSG ❤️
– Gabi K.Oak San Kicker, 2008 AQHA mare in 2021 doing a Garrocha pole demo at our local dressage schooling show. We had also shown that day at first level, riding one handed. She was amazing!!! The most downhill, not built for the job dressage horse but was also my best one so far because of how much try she had. – Kelly M.My sweet girl “In the Hot Spotlight” aka Alley 💙 I grew up with her, got her when she was 5 and I was 9, now we are 17 and 21 🥰 Love my little Quarter Horse with all my heart! Made a lot of dreams come true, and have that special bond where no matter how much time passes, I can just hop on for a ride bareback and away we go! Gotta love a good QH, and a good chestnut mare! 😊😉
– Rory P.Sweet N Fabulous — I love him! He’s the best boy for learning this sport together! Photo by Emmet Roche for Lisa Dean Photography
– Sarah C.This is my 1/2 AQHA boy! ❤️ His mama was a papered AQHA
– Kate K.My Appendix QH, Seatle Scotch, has been with me the past 7 years and has been the best horse I’ve ever had the pleasure to sit on. She took me to novice in eventing earning my C2 in Pony Club, and then got us our C3 in dressage last year… in addition to taking me to my first ever recognized shows where I made some personal best scores. QH crosses for the win! 💕 – Brooke K.My father, Robert Chapeski, on AQHA gelding Brillar (registered Cannon Firing). He got his USDF Gold Medal on Brillar in 2008 when Brillar was 23 or 24! I believe he’s 22 in this photo. He was a very sweet and rather odd horse, and was buried on the farm at the age of 30. ❤️
– Olivia C.
