Feisty Fjords – Part Three

The feisty Norwegian Fjord is our September Breed of the Month on YourDressage! We recently asked our social media followers to share a photo of their favorite Fjord and received an amazing response from Fjord fans around the world. We will be sharing stories and galleries all month long about this wonderfully versatile breed!

Did you know that dressage riders who choose a registered Norwegian Fjord as their dressage mount are eligible for special awards through the Adequan®/USDF All-Breeds Awards program? The Norwegian Fjord Horse Registry and the Norwegian Fjord Horse Alliance Inc. are participating organizations!

My mare, Marit. 💕
Marit is blind in her right eye, but she is as opinionated, confident, and full of personality as ever. One of my favorite things about this breed is how strong-minded they are. When Marit is on my side, I truly feel like we are unstoppable.
And then there are the moments (maybe the majority of the time) when she isn’t. Those moments are just as invaluable, because she is constantly teaching me how to ride better, how to ask correctly, and how to simply carry myself around a mighty Fjord.
At 26, my girl is aging like a fine wine. Knock on wood, she is happy and healthy on a simple routine of injections. This breed is incredibly hearty, and I never take her health, longevity, or all the years we’ve been given together for granted.
Marit and I have been together for almost a decade, and I truly cannot imagine riding anything else. She has taught me so much, challenged me in all the best ways, and has completely captured my heart. 💕

Andrasko’s Sterling Asmundr is the only offspring of Corgi Hill Flinka. These two fjords are the only ones currently competing successfully at the FEI levels. Sterling is a 10 time USDF all breeds champion from 3rd level – PSG. He is currently ranked in the top 5 for freestyle and PSG in the national USDF rankings.
Ranked #1 for the pony cup currently at psg and 4th level FS. He’s just an amazing horse.

Corgi Hill Flinka is a 2026 Breyer Celebration Horse and her model is out now. She spent the winter training and showing in Wellington and is a 4 time national pony champion. 4th level – I1. She is currently getting ready to debut the Grand Prix.
Her son Andrasko’s Sterling Asmundr is also showing I1 and getting set to head to regionals.

LadyHawk Malfournier, a filly by Optimist Hasnaes in her first eventing test. We are training her mainly in dressage and hope to present her in young horse dressage test in 2027.

LVG Prydar (photo credit NDPC) a 12 yr old gelding out of Pyrdarson. This year we moved up to FEI in Wellington at PSG. Although we are still very green at the level, Prydar tries his heart out for me in every test. I purchased Pyrdar as an unbroken 4 year old and have done all his training myself, my goal is to get my USDF Gold Medal on him!! It is a long journey but I have such a great support team behind us.

ONW Sunniva- 24 and an absolute wonder pony, will pack around little kids and pull out some fancy moves if you know how to ask her the right way ❤️

Skogen is retired now, but in the day he was considered to be one of the best fjord dressage horses. He competed up to 4th level, winning over warmbloods at the shows he competed in. He is a beautiful example of the breed and had a following among the younger riders at the USDF shows.

My Jeffery and I are celebrating 18 years together this December. He’s seen me go from a middle school kid all the way to a 32 year old married woman. He’s 22 this year and I adore him.

Hello from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 Competing with my fjord Keerl @ dressage. We are almost at level Z. Besides that we showjump, trail ride and he walks in front of the cart… love this breed, they are so versatile!

What started as a journey full of learning, patience and a little bit of chaos, has grown into something I’m incredibly proud of. Competition after competition(working equitation), this handsome man keeps giving me his all — and somehow, we often find ourselves in that top 3 together. 🏆

But the ribbons will never be the most important part. It’s his character, his cheeky moments, his huge heart and our endless determination that make me love him so much.

We’re both a little stubborn, we never give up, and we keep growing together.
