Dressage Embraced by Susan Derr Drake - 1st Place winner for Adult Art in the 2019 USDF Arts Contest

The annual USDF Arts Contest is a great way for USDF Members to show off their artistic skills.  It was designed to highlight the creativity and beauty of dressage and to allow members to express their interest in the sport outside of the competition arena. Here are 5 reasons you should enter this year!

You’ve Got Plenty of Time!

Especially this year with the quarantine, there is plenty of time to focus on your creative side.  The deadline for entry is July 1st, 2020. Once you’ve emailed in your artwork(s) and your entry form, you’ll receive a confirmation e-mail and you’re all set!

It’s Open to All USDF Members

The contest  is open to all current USDF members (Participating Members, members of Group Membership Organizations (GMOs), and Youth Members.)

Multiple Divisions Available

There is a division for everyone!  The contest includes both art (all 2D and 3D forms) and photography divisions, and each division has 3 age categories (15 and under, 16 to 21, and adult.)

The Prizes!

The Grand Prize winner will be featured on the cover of the 2021 USDF Member Guide, which is sent out to every fellow USDF member. The Grand Prize and first place winners in each category/division will receive a gift certificate from Jane Heart Jewelry.  Also, the Grand Prize, first place, and second place winners in all categories/divisions will appear in the USDF Yearbook and on the USDF website.

Exposure For Your Art or Photography

Winners are shared on USDF’s social media channels, and some entrants are featured on YourDressage with artist or photographer credit.

Bonus Reason – Art is a Stress Reliever!

The results, published in Art Therapy: Journal of the American Art Therapy Association, titled “Reduction of Cortisol Levels and Participants’ Responses Following Art Making,” found that 45 minutes of creative activity significantly lessens stress in the body, regardless of artistic experience or talent. So whether you’re being healthy at home or safe in the workplace, take a spa day and treat yourself to some time creating art!
